Adopt Resolution 12-58 canceling the Whetstone Fire District Board November 6, 2012 election for the three 4-year board seats up for election and appointing the candidates (Mary Foote and Kenneth Leffler) who filed to run in the election to fill two open board positions, with all the powers and duties of the office as if elected to the office, effective the 1st day of December 2012; and, resolving that the other open board position is hereby declared vacant, effective the 1st day of December 2012, to be filled by the Board Members at that time.
Background:
A.R.S. 48-802 (D)(4) provides that the Board of Supervisors may cancel the election for Fire District Governing Board seats and appoint the person who filed nomination papers to fill the position when the number of positions is equal to or more then the number of persons who filed nomination papers.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Notify the Whetstone Fire District of the cancellation of the election, appointment of Mary Fotte and Kenneth Leffler and declaration of vacancy.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Whetstone Fire District would incur cost of election.
