Agenda Item Text:

Adopt Resolution 11-06 authorizing the Sheriff's Office to submit proposals to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety for consideration in Arizona's 2011/2012 Highway Safety Plan and appointing Sheriff Larry Dever, or his designee, as Cochise County's appointed agent to conduct negotiations, and to execute and submit all documents in connection with such grants.

Background:

This is a routine event requested by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). Approval of this resolution will permit the Sheriff's Office to submit grant proposals to the GOHS for consideration in the 2011/2012 HIghway Safety Plan. The requested resolution also appoints Sheriff Dever, or his designee, as the County's agent to conduct negotiations with GOHS, and to execute and submit all documents and/or other instruments in connection with any awarded grant from GOHS. There are no costs associated with this resolution and to date there have been matching funds or costs associated with grants awarded by GOHS. Funding from GOHS pays the overtime for officers to participate in DUI Task Force deployments and other related public safety events.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If approved, the signed Resolution will be forwarrded to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If the Resolution is not approved, the Sheriff's Office grant or proposal submissions will not be considered for the upcoming Highway Safety Plan. Therefore, there would be no funding to pay overtime associated with the DUI Task Force and other associated enforcement and public safety events.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Upon approval please provide the Sheriff's Office with a copy of the executed Resolution.
