Agenda Item Text:
Discussion and general direction on the concept of building a shooting range for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Background:
On April 7, 2011, a Design Concept Report was completed for the proposed project by BWS Architects, Tucson, Arizona, with input from the CCSO. Under the concept design, the overall cost for completion of engineering, design, and construction for the project was estimated to be approximately $2,847,678. The CCSO has been pledged $1 million from an anonymous donor towards completion of the project, and desires to proceed with a phased approach due to funding constraints. In order to maximize the use of available funding, CCSO has agreed to an alternative design that will significantly reduce the required earth work, resulting in substantial savings through value engineering. The first phase of the project would include full architectural/engineering and design of the range and add-on alternates, a fully functioning rifle range, completion of the required earth work, and build-out of additional parking for staff.
