Agenda Item Text:
Adopt Resolution 11-24 temporarily prohibiting the use of "permissible consumer fireworks" in the unincorporated areas of Cochise County and specifying criminal penalties and financial responsibility for the violation of this prohibition.
Background:
Due to the risk of extreme fire danger as evidenced by the closure of the Coronado National Forest, the Horseshoe 2 Fire and the Monument Fire presently burning in Cochise County, the Board will consider the attached Resolution placing a temporary prohibition on the use of any fireworks in the unincorporated areas within Cochise County, through July 29th.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Prepare radio/TV and newspaper PSAs; record Resolution.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The use of permissible consumer fireworks will not be prohibited in Cochise County thus creating the potential for additional fire hazards.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Prepare radio/TV and newspaper PSAs; record Resolution.
