Agenda Item Text:

Approve annual agreement between State Library, Archives and Public Records (LAPR) and the County Library District to participate in state-wide database sharing consortium from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.

Background:

LAPR and county libraries across the state are committed to providing access to high quality library information services.  Participants acknowledge the benefits of consortium purchasing and pricing discounts.  Therefore, several years ago an informal consortium was created to select and purchase information resources for statewide use by all library patrons.  LAPR supports the consortium by offsetting the cost of the databases and the county systems pay the remaining amount based on their population.  This year, Cochise Library District's contribution will be $15,406.84 and LAPR's contribution will be $400,000.  We have already indicated our intent to continue participation in the consortium.   Please see letter from LAPR articulating this relationship and invoice attached.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Library District staff will:  1)   continue to promote the resources for the County and affiliate libraries in the District; 2) provide staff and user feedback on resources to assist with database evaluation; and 3)  acknowledge in marketing materials that the statewide electronic resources were made possible in part by federal funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), as granted by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Cochise County residents will not have access to the statewide database through the consortium.
