Background:
Potential for a confirmed local transmission of a Vector Borne disease (Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya) is considerable as mosquito species are present in Cochise County. Response has the potential to become quite large and involved with local, state and federal agencies present and assisting. Local transmission, especially multiple persons, will likely be national news with national travel advisories for the area publicized as required by the CDC. Potential for economic impact due to travel advisories as they can be in place for 45 or more days. Absolute need for coordinated and consistent public and media messaging. Resources required for effective control and response are considerable as door to door canvassing and interviewing of homes within 1 mile diameter of confirmed local transmission is necessary. Canvassing and interviewing best accomplished during evening and night hours as families are more likely to be home.
