Agenda Item Text:

Discuss the Fiscal Year 2011 Local Transportation Assistance Funding (LTAF II) funds received by the County and possible award of LTAF II funds to local transportation providers.

Background:

The County has received $45,543 in Local Transportation Assistance Funding (LTAF II) from the Arizona Department of Transportation. LTAF II funding must be used for public transportation purposes only. Since the County does not have a public transportation system, the same process was utilized from previous LTAF II funding years by soliciting applications from local transportation providers to apply for the LTAF II funding received by the County. Transportation providers must serve the general public, elderly persons, persons with disabilities, welfare recipients or low-income persons needing transportation for work related purposes.

A solicitation for LTAF II applications and application packages were sent via email to previous applicants in early March 2011. The following transportation providers submitted applications for FY11 LTAF II funding from Cochise County:

Provider Amount Requested

City of Bisbee $45,000
City of Sierra Vista $10,000
Catholic Community Services $15,000
Cochise County Assoc. for the Handicapped $ 9,384
Douglas Assoc. for Retarded Citizens $15,500
Northern Cochise Community Hospital $11,250
Town of Huachuca City $20,813
Volunteer Interfaith Caregiver Program $ 5,775
Wynne Chapel $ 2,400
Total $135,122

Note: The County may retain up to 7.5% or $3,416 for administrative expenses

Proposed Outcome: The Board provides direction on LTAF II funding levels for each applying transportation provider. After which, a resolution will be prepared for formal Board action. The resolution will indicate distribution amounts based on direction received from the Board during this work session. Cooperative grant agreements will be required for the awarded non-profit transportation providers.
