Accept funding in the amount of $23,000 from the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records for Fiscal Year 2011-12 to assist with Summer Reading programs, travel costs for library staff to attend workshops and for 'on-demand' purchases.
Background:
COCHISE COUNTY HAS BEEN DESIGNATED TO RECEIVE $23,000 IN STATE GRANTS-IN-AID FOR FISCAL YEAR 2011/2012. THE LIBRARY DISTRICT USES STATE AID TO ASSIST LIBRARIANS AND LIBRARY STAFF IN OUR DISTRICT WITH TRAVEL COSTS TO WORKSHOPS AND MEETINGS IN THE COUNTY AND STATE; ASSISTS LIBRARIES IN THE DISTRICT WITH SUMMER READING PROGRAM COSTS; "ON-DEMAND" PURCHASING (THESE ARE THE SPECIFIC CUSTOMER REQUESTS WHICH THE TWELVE BRANCH AND CITY LIBRARIES SEND TO THE DISTRICT TO PURCHASE BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO RECENTLY PUBLISHED TO BORROW FROM OTHER LIBRARIES EITHER IN OR OUTSIDE OF THE COUNTY).

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Library staff throught the district won't be able to attend as many workshops and library sponsored meetings. The libraries won't be able to offer children as many special programs during the summer. The district won't be able to purchase as many "On-Demand" requests from patrons.
