Agenda Item Text:
Consider the proposed Cochise County Precincts
Background:
Due to the dramatic increase in mail-in voters, the Board of Supervisors is considering reducing the number of precincts from 64 to 49. The intent is to create precincts that will have between 500 and 1,000 voters at the polling place at a majot General Election. Rural districts with fewer voters for the most part will not be consolidated due to the increased driving distances involved.
Please note that in the event that the State's Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) proposed Congressional Map and Legislative Map are adopted, this will impact about 15 of Cochise County Precincts, which would then need to be further modified.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Wait for the IRC to announce its maps and make adjustments.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Cochise County will be out of compliance in redistricting
