Approve the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief I (ESSER 1) Grant, award number S425D200038, to the Cochise County School Superintendent's Office in the amount of $49,397.78, effective April 11, 2021, through September 30, 2021.
Background:
The Cochise County School Superintendent applied for ESSER I funds in the amount of $49,397.78. The grant was approved by the Arizona Department of Education on 4/11/21. The County School Superintendent will be using the funds to update the classrooms at the County Jail and Education Center with new furniture and computer/electronic equipment.
The ESSER fund is authorized under Section 18003 of the Education Stabilization Fund per the CARES Act to aid local educational agencies (LEAs) to prevent, prepare for and respond to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Funds for this program have been allocated per Section 18003(c) to LEAs in the State in proportion to the amount of funds such LEAs receive under Title I-A in the most recent fiscal year (FY20).

If approved, the County School Superintendent will begin purchasing the grant budgeted items.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Without the ESSER I grant, the County School Superintendent will not be in the financial position to make the much-needed updates to the classrooms. .

There aren't any documents to sign; the grant has already been approved at the state level and a check will soon be received by the County School Superintendent. Board approval is needed to set up the fund line with Finance in order to receive the money.
