Agenda Item Text:
Discussion and Possible Direction regarding a report on Cochise County Growing Water Smart Action Plan, how it works with the Board of Supervisors' (BOS) Strategic Plan concerning water issues, and on how the BOS may play a role in this action plan.
Background:
Members of county and Benson staff and elected attended Growing Water Smart Workshops and developed an action plan to effectively mitigate our water issues.
Problem Statement:Groundwater supplies are at risk because of drought and groundwater pumping in the county and as supplies continue to decrease, this will cause increasing tensions between water users in the County, as well as threaten quality of life and limit growth
Our Message: Cochise County loves our small towns and rural lifestyle. But drought and excess groundwater use are threatening our shared and limited water supplies. Therefore, we need your support to ensure the lifestyle we all love is available for our kids into the future.
Proposed Outcome: Inform Board of Supervisors of Action Plan and get support.
