Agenda Item Text:
Approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States Marshals Service and Cochise County Sheriff's Office to conduct a joint short-term Sex Offender Compliance Operation in Cochise County in July 2022.
Background:
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is for use in a temporary, short-term, joint Sex Offender Compliance Operation being conducted by the United States Marshals Service (USMS) and Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO). This is a meet and greet type of operation seeking to educate sex offenders residing in Cochise County. All registered sex offenders will be contacted to ensure they understand the terms of their release and compliance requirements. This operation will be conducted in Cochise County for a period of four days during the month of July 2022. The USMS will be paying $2,103.60 in overtime for participating sheriff's deputies and $4,736.15 for new computer equipment. The total value of this MOU is $6,839.75. The computer equipment consists of a new laptop, printer and scanner that will be used by the CCSO Sex Offender Unit.
Chief Civil Deputy Christine Roberts has approved this MOU as to form.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved this MOU will allow CCSO Deputies to participate with USMS in the Sex Offender Compliance Operation.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
This is a joint effort to improve public safety and ensure sex offenders are in compliance with their release mandates. The alternative is for the CCSO Sex Offender Unit to continue their compliance inspections as part of their normal operations.

If approved by the BOS, please return the MOU to Chief Tom Alinen.
