Discussion and possible direction regarding the proposed creation of a Mental Health Support Team in Cochise County, with initial program funding via a Grant Agreement with the Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona in the amount of $1,263,449.
Background:
The purpose of today's Work Session is to update the Board of Supervisors regarding the proposed creation of a Mental Health Support Team in Cochise County.
The purpose of the Mental Health Support Team will include:
The purpose of the Mental Health Support Team will include:
- respond to incidents where persons are experiencing mental crises and deescalate those events;
- take a proactive approach in identifying those suffering from mental illness and provide them with existing programs and resources to address their mental illness;
- teach Crisis Intervention Techniques/deescalation tactics to regional law enforcement officers;
- provide mental health support to local schools;
- transport individuals to in-patient treatment facilities; and,
- teach suicide prevention classes.
