Agenda Item Text:

Approve the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Assessment grant in the amount of $500,000.

Background:

The County received the same EPA Brownfield Assessment grant in 2019 for $600,000 and has expended all the funds.  The County applied again in 2022 and received an additional $500,000.  This economic development grant is used to assess properties in the County, including incorporated areas for hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, and ground pollution.  The goal of the grant is to assess properties to encourage redevelopment of the property and private investment. No cash match is required.  This grant supports the following BOS Strategic Objectives:  Economic Development Countywide, Environmental Issues, Increased Intergovernmental Cooperation and Collaboration.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Sign the grant agreement and move forward with assessing properties in the County to encourage redevelopment and private investment.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

The county will not receive the EPA Brownfields Grant money and the opportunity to encourage the redevelopment of properties and private investment in Cochise County.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
