Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve Amendment 2023-68 to Contract 2023-PTS-015 between Cochise County and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, for an increased funding amount of $48,664, for the purchase of radar units to enhance the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), effective October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023.

Background:

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has provided funds over many years to assist with traffic-related enforcement and alcohol-related issues. These include targeted areas for DUI enforcement, Distracted Driver Enforcement, Aggressive Driver Enforcement, educational and prevention activities and community events designed to educate on impaired, distracted and aggressive driving. This amendment has been approved as to form by the County Attorney's Office.

The addition of funds is for the purchase of additional Radar units.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Continue to conduct enforcement activities related to distracted / aggressive driving while utilizing the Radar units.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Funding for this type of traffic enforcement equipment would not be available due to lack of general funds to purchase new speed enforcement equipment to replace older equipment.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

please advise when the amendment is approved.
