Agenda Item Text:
Work Session to determine the necessity or level of demolition appropriate for "Miracle Valley" structure. [Miracle Valley Bible College, located at 9229 E. Miracle Valley Loop, Hereford, AZ 85615]
Background:
For several years proponents of rebuilding the Miracle Valley operation have requested my support, which I am happy to provide. Proponents feel a religious compulsion to preserve the structure. Therefore, that religious compulsion should be considered as part of the First Amendment rights possessed by citizens. Furthermore, although I do not claim to know the complete record of circumstances of County government involvement, it is my opinion that the efforts of the County government may have been contrary to these proponents' interests, and resulted in monetary and use loss, deterioration, and delay of preservation and restoration efforts of those interested in the property.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Delay demolition of the structure, pending review of the matter. Determine the level of necessity of demolition, vs. the caveat of assumed responsibility for the structural integrity by purchasers, whoever they may be.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Potential purchasers with the highest potential bids may be dissuaded from those highest bids if the structure is completely demolished.
