Agenda Item Text:
Approve Cooperative Service Agreement 23-7304-0228-RA between Cochise County and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and Wildlife Services, as set forth in an annual work plan for predator and disease control under the Wildlife Damage Management program, effective July, 1 2023 through June 30, 2028.
Background:
This an Inter-governmental Agreement between Cochise County and the USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Wildlife Services. This agreement establishes the purpose, authority, responsibilities and general terms of the agreement while the annual work plan sets specific goals, actions and costs of a Wildlife Specialist to be assigned to Cochise County to manage damage caused by wild and feral animals to livestock, agricultural commodities and public health. The Wildlife Specialist works with the Sheriff's Office Animal Control Officers. This agreement has been budgeted from the General Fund for several years. The IGA's term is 5 years while the work plan is approved every year.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Continue with the services as provided to mitigate predators and health issues related to animals within the county.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
County Animal Control Officers are not able to respond to wildlife animal calls. If the agreement is not approved it will result in a reduction in services and quality of life for the citizens of Cochise County.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Please return both signed agreements to the Sheriff's Office Attn. Lt. Sean Gijanto.
