Information
Agenda Item Text:
Approve Fiscal Year 2023 through Fiscal Year 2027 Funding Agreement between Cochise County Superior Court and the Arizona Supreme Court, Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), provided by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA #2), for Reduction of Case Backlogs in the amount of $39,250, effective January 5, 2023 through December 31, 2026.
Background:
The purpose of the grant funding is to support the reduction of case backlogs by utilizing senior commissioners to conduct settlement conferences in the Superior Court for criminal and civil cases to reduce the number of cases set for jury trial. The funding is provided through the state Case Processing Assistance Fund (CPAF) and Judicial Collection Enhancement Fund (JCEF). We estimate the funding should cover approximately 20 cases per fiscal year. Funding by fiscal year is as follows:
FY23 - $2,500
FY24 - $10,500
FY25 - $10,500
FY26 - $10,500
FY27 through December 31, 2026 - $5,250
FY23 - $2,500
FY24 - $10,500
FY25 - $10,500
FY26 - $10,500
FY27 through December 31, 2026 - $5,250
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Continue scheduling settlement conferences conducted by senior commissioners to reduce case backlogs and receive reimbursement for the cost of the commissioners from the AOC on a quarterly basis. Submit budget amendment to setup FY23 state reimbursement budget.
