Agenda Item Text:

Discussion and possible direction regarding recommendations in the Maddie's Millions Pet Challenge pro bono feasibility report for animal control and sheltering services in Cochise County.

Background:

On June 24 and 25, 2024, consultants Dr. Sara Pizano (Team Shelter USA) and Cameron Moore (University of Florida), visited Cochise County and City of Douglas to develop recommendations to address animal welfare and sheltering challenges. Their report examined the following options for the county: 1 - Status Quo, 2 - allocate funding to improve current contract shelters, 3 - utilize USDA grant to remodel the building on Tovreaville Road into a county shelter, or 4 - purchase Tailtopia as a shelter location for the County.
