Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve amendment of an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Cochise College, Sierra Vista Police Department, and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office which amends Academy dates, and housing and meal plan rates.

Background:

Cochise College, the Sierra Vista Police Department and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office have been operating the Southeast Arizona Law Enforcement training Academy (SEALETA) since January 2019. This IGA and amendment will ensure we are able to continue to operate the academy for FY 24/25 with the intention of conducting two academy classes.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If approved, the three entities will move forward with the two upcoming academy classes to train recruits to be Arizona certified law enforcement officers.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

It will be detrimental to local law enforcement agencies regarding the hiring and training of potential officers. It would also force local agencies to seek outside training academies for their officers at a greater cost to the respective agency.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Return one fully executed original IGA to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, Sierra Vista Police Department and Cochise College.

Fiscal Impact

Fiscal Year:
FY 24/25
Ongoing Costs? ($$$):
$24,000
Source of Funding?:
GF

Fiscal Impact & Funding Sources (if known):

Approximately $24,000 is expensed for uncovered OT for the academy sergeant. It comes out of general funds. The amendment saves $50 per recruit.
