County Recorder Interviews.

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03, Subsection (A), paragraph (1), the Board of Supervisors may enter into executive session for discussion or consideration of employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, demotion, dismissal, salaries, or resignation of a public officer, appointee, or employee of any public body.

County Recorder David Stevens has submitted his resignation, effective February 28. As a result, the Board of Supervisors must appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy in accordance with Arizona law.

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-230(A), when a vacancy occurs in the office of an elected county official—other than a supervisor—the Board of Supervisors is responsible for appointing a replacement who meets the statutory qualifications and is of the same political party as the departing official. The appointed individual will serve for the remainder of the current term or until the next general election, as dictated by law.

In response to the vacancy, interested candidates have submitted letters of interest. The Board will review these submissions, discuss each candidate’s qualifications, and determine which individuals should be considered for interviews.

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03(A)(1), the Board may enter into executive session to deliberate on the candidates, as the discussion involves the appointment of a public officer. Any final decision or appointment will be made in an open session, as required by law.

After the interviews, the Board will deliberate and determine the most qualified candidate for appointment in accordance with Arizona law. Any final decision will be made in an open session as required by statute.
