Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve the Highway Safety Grant Agreement 2026-PTS-016 from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, for Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) overtime, employee related expenses, and radar equipment, in the amount of $29,474.00, effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.

Background:

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has provided funds over many years to assist with traffic-related enforcement and alcohol-related issues. These include targeted areas for DUI enforcement, Distracted Driver Enforcement, Aggressive Driver Enforcement, educational and prevention activities and community events designed to educate on impaired, distracted and aggressive driving.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Continue to conduct educational and enforcement activities related to distracted / aggressive driving while utilizing the Radar units.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Funding for this type of traffic enforcement and equipment would not be available due to lack of general fund overtime and funds to purchase new speed enforcement equipment to replace older and out dated equipment.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Please return both signed originals to the Sheriff's office (Sgt. Tod Linendoll), so they can be sent to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety for final approval by the director. Please send a copy of the minutes to Celina Ybarra as soon as possible so that the funding line for this grant can be set up.
