Approve Resolution 26-01 appointing Bradley A. Simmons, P.E., as Interim County Engineer for Cochise County, effective January 11, 2026.
Background:
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 11-561, the Cochise County Board of Supervisors is authorized to appoint a County Engineer. The previously appointed County Engineer, Jackie Watkins, has resigned, creating a vacancy in the position.
To ensure continuity of engineering oversight and County operations during the recruitment and selection of a permanent County Engineer, the Board seeks to appoint an Interim County Engineer. Bradley A. Simmons, P.E., is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona and is qualified to perform the duties of County Engineer as prescribed by A.R.S. § 11-562 and applicable County policies.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Upon approval, the resolution will be executed and become effective January 11, 2026. Bradley A. Simmons, P.E., will assume the duties of Interim County Engineer in accordance with A.R.S. § 11-562, applicable County policies, and direction of the Board of Supervisors. County Administration will proceed with the recruitment and selection process for a permanent County Engineer.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The position of County Engineer will remain vacant, which may result in delays or disruptions to required engineering oversight, project approvals, and statutory duties assigned to the County Engineer under A.R.S. § 11-562.
