Agenda Item Text:
Approve the appointment of Cameron Judd and Randal Wilson as county-wide Justices of the Peace Pro Tempore for emergency or temporary coverage, pursuant to ARS §22-121; and authorize the use of an appropriately appointed Justice of the Peace Pro Tempore from another county in extenuating circumstances, pursuant to ARS §22-122, effective April 7, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
Background:
Following the voluntary resignation of two Justices of the Peace Pro Tempore, the Court initiated a recruitment process to fill the vacancies. A Selection Committee, consisting of seven (7) members, including private attorneys, community representatives, and three judicial officers, was appointed to recommend candidates.
The Justices of the Peace Pro Tempore provides coverage for initial appearances on weekends and holidays for the Superior Court and Justice Courts.
The appointment requires approval of the Board of Supervisors.

Appointment of Justices of the Peace Pro Tempore by the Presiding Judge of the Arizona Superior Court in Cochise County.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Where no other elected justice of the peace is available or otherwise able to conduct a necessary hearing, there would be no coverage generating delays in court proceedings.
