Agenda Item Text:
Approve Second Amendment to the Grant Agreement between the Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona and Cochise County Sheriff's Office for the Cochise County Mental Health Support Team (CARE Team) project, extending the agreement through June 1, 2027, and accepting additional funding in the amount of $50,000.
Background:
To better address the epidemic of Mental Illness in Cochise County, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office sought a grant to fund the creation of a Mental Health Support Team. This grant agreement was originally approved by the Board of Supervisors on July 26, 2022. The mission of this team is multi-faceted and will, amongst other things, include: (1) responding to incidents where persons are experiencing mental crises and de-escalating those events; (2) taking a proactive approach in identifying those suffering from mental illness and providing them with existing programs and resources to address their mental illness; (3) teaching Crisis Intervention Techniques/de-escalation tactics to regional law enforcement officers; (4) providing mental health support to local schools; (5)transporting individuals to in-patient treatment facilities; and (6) teaching suicide prevention classes. This program has been fully funded because of generous financial support from the Legacy Foundation of Southeastern Arizona.
The Second Amendment to the Grant Agreement dated July 28, 2022: To accommodate the pass-through Mayo Family Foundation funding of $50,000, the term of the Agreement is hereby extended to June 1, 2027 (five years after the first grant payment was issued). • Provided all grant requirements are met, the one-time payment of $50,000 (a pass-through grant from the Mayo Family Foundation) shall be paid on or before April 2, 2026, or upon satisfactory completion of all required deliverables, whichever occurs later.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Upon board approval, CCSO will use the $50,000 dollars from the Mayo Family foundation and the remaining funds from the Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona and continue providing the much-needed services to the citizens and employees of Cochise County through the Cochise County Mental Health Support Team.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved, the $50,000 will not be accepted, significantly hindering the ability of the Cochise County Mental Health Support Team to carry on with their mission of providing Mental Health support to citizens and employees in Cochise County.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Please provide a signed copy of the amendment to Commander John Gjerde or a member of the CCSO Command Staff.
