Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve Grant Agreement HID2626G0731-2909 City of Tucson High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), between the City of Tucson and Cochise County, in the amount of $150,353, effective January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027.

Background:

The HIDTA Grant will partially fund the salaries and EREs for one drug crime Attorney and related Paralegal. The remaining balance of $13,176.00 will be funded from the Justice Enhancement Fund. The HIDTA Grant provides the HIDTA prosecutor for drug crimes, that also result in asset forfeiture seizures. This grant works in conjunction with Southeastern Arizona Major Investigative Team (SAMIT) headed by the DEA and the Cochise County Sheriff’s HIDTA.  Not renewing this grant would jeopardize law enforcement drug grants as well as the Byrne grant.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Once approved by the Board, obtain signed agreement from the Board and Certified copies of the Board Minutes.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Without the HIDTA Grant, two positions would be eliminated and drug prosections affected.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Advise CAO upon Board approval. Return the signed Agreement to CAO. Send a certified copy of the Board Minutes approving the agreement, as soon as it is available, to CAO.
