1.
Discussion and possible direction regarding Covid-19: specifically updates on the current state of the public health emergency.
Vice-Chairman English stated Chairman Tom Borer would not attend today. Since Supervisor Peggy Judd was also not present, she asked Mr. Britt Hanson if the work session could proceed without a quorum. Mr. Hanson stated since this was a work session, no quorum was required.
Ms. Carrie Langley, Health Director, reported Cochise County has 190 COVID-19 cases, of which 101 are active. The State is waiting for results of long-term care facilities. In the County, Chiricahua Community Health is testing twice weekly, Tuesdays and Fridays, with no cost, and pre-registration is recommended for faster service. She stressed the importance of following CDC recommendations collectively, and by wearing a cloth covering, transmission is reduced 60%. The Health Department will continue to communicate to the public through the podcast and other means.
Vice-Chairman English stated Pima County Administration has safety requirements for staff and all entering their facilities. Citing the increased cases in Santa Cruz County, she shared comments on and asked questions about how our County can deflect the same issues, and suggested Cochise County offer help to Santa Cruz, who is also a border county. She encouraged Ms. Langley to come to the Board on behalf of the County and the public, and to promote the public’s personal responsibility in preventing spread, in the name of the County Health Department.
Ms. Catherine Traywick, Treasurer, identified changes made in her department for staff and public safety, and said the alternative to personal visits is to call or use the drop box.
Mr. Hanson informed meeting attendees, and specifically Vice-Chairman English, the Superior Court Clerk’s office closed due to an employee testing positive.
Ms. Langley concluded, stating they still contact trace then quarantine those who have positive contact, with an average of six contacts per active case. There is follow up during quarantine and if symptoms develop, the Health Department determines their needs and connects them to resources. Defined cases are restricted further within the home, in order to protect family, and those persons receive additional follow up and intensive case management.
