On December 12, 2024, the Broward MPO Board adopted the Route to 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The MTP is updated every five years with a new 25-year planning horizon and incorporates demographic and traffic analysis updates to develop a list of cost-feasible transportation projects (utilizing Federal and State funding) to meet the future needs of the transportation network. Occasionally, an adopted MTP will need to be amended prior to the five-year update cycle in order to add, remove, or modify a transportation project in the MTP Cost Feasible Plan. According to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), an amendment to the MTP "requires public review and comment and a redemonstration of fiscal constraint" (23 CFR § 450.104). The Broward MPO Board, on February 12, 2026, adopted the first amendments to the 2050 MTP.

The MPO's established annual MTP amendment cycle (approved by the MPO Board on June 11, 2020 via a Rules amendment) includes an annual deadline for written amendment requests from partner agencies (November 10th). As part of the annual MTP amendment cycle, MPO staff have developed a four-step process to facilitate the review and processing of amendment requests:
