Route to 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Mast-Arm Conversion Projects
SUMMARY EXPLANATION/BACKGROUND:
This item is in response to a request from the Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) for additional information on the status of the region's Mast-Arm Conversion effort. The MPO has invited both Broward County and the Florida Department of Transportation to participate in this discussion. The Broward MPO will provide a presentation to the CAC on the identification and programming of Mast-Arm Conversion projects included in the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), adopted in December 2024.
As part of the 2050 MTP’s Infrastructure Hardening Funding Program, these projects aim to improve Broward's roadway network by mitigating the impacts of extreme weather. Infrastructure Hardening is a key Emphasis Area in the 2050 MTP, which supports a stronger and more reliable transportation system. The MTP is a long-range planning document that guides investments over a 25-year horizon and is updated every five years. It translates regional transportation goals into a list of prioritized projects and directs the use of Federal, State, and other funds to enhance mobility, support economic development, and strengthen communities. This approach ensures that the selected projects align with MPO goals and are financially implementable within the MTP’s planning horizon.
At the upcoming meeting, a presentation will be provided, and questions and comments will be addressed. The presentation will outline a five-step approach used by the MPO to identify and prioritize Mast-Arm Conversion projects:
