Consent Item 5.
Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization
- Meeting Date:
- 02/12/2026
REQUESTED ACTION:
MOTION TO APPROVE a Subrecipient Agreement Between the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization and South Florida Regional Transportation Authority for Fare Interoperability
WHAT THIS ACTION ACCOMPLISHES:
Approval of this item will allow the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) to integrate Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment options within SoFloGO, the new regional mobile ticketing and trip-planning app. No additional funds are being requested.
SUMMARY EXPLANATION/BACKGROUND:
In 2021, SFRTA received $1,632,378 of Federal Transit Administration funding to create the SoFloGO mobile application, a phone app that provides Tri-Rail and other public transit customers the ability to plan, book, and purchase multiple mobility options from both public and private transportation services. Following the launch of the SoFloGO in August 2025, user feedback has consistently highlighted the desire for additional mobile payment options, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. These options allow riders to use the credit or debit card information already stored on their smartphones and reflect industry best practices that are now standard expectations for modern transit ticketing platforms.
To address this need, the proposed Subrecipient Agreement will implement a new scope of work to include full integration of Apple Pay for the iOS version and Google Pay for the Android version of SoFloGO. The work will be completed utilizing the remaining grant funds originally awarded to SFRTA and will not require any additional funding.
For the proposed Subrecipient Agreement with SFRTA at no additional cost, please see the Attachment. Staff will be available at the upcoming meeting to address any questions or comments.
