Safe Streets 4 Broward Oversight Committee
SUMMARY EXPLANATION/BACKGROUND:
On February 12, 2026, the Broward MPO board approved the Broward Regional Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (BSAP) Technical Report. The MPO staff presentation highlighted next steps that included preparing an Annual Report Card, conducting Oversight Committee meetings, and coordinating with agency partners on local Safety Action Plans. The Federal funding partners require that recipients of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant continue coordination with a committee, task force, implementation group, or similar body established and charged with the plan’s development, implementation, and monitoring. To fulfill this requirement, the MPO will prepare an annual report to track progress and performance measures on BSAP recommendations to the United States Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration and meet annually with the BSAP Oversight Committee and review progress and performance measures towards the goal of reducing KSIs (persons Killed and Seriously Injured) to zero by 2050.
The BSAP planning process included regular coordination with two Advisory Committees: the Technical Working Group that met monthly and the Oversight Committee that met quarterly. Members of both BSAP committees had the option to continue as members of the new Safe Streets 4 Broward Oversight Committee. The new Committee will represent a broad range of community interests within the transportation, health, enforcement, and policy sectors. The membership of the Oversight Committee also includes some members of the recently-sunsetted Roads for Families Advisory Committee, previously known as the Complete Streets Advisory Committee.
The new Oversight Committee will meet twice a year. Duties will include the review of the Annual Report Card to the Federal partners; implementation of the BSAP recommendations for policies, programs and projects; presentations on current projects that will become part of the Annual Report; and coordination with agency partners on local Safety Action Plans and implementation of the BSAP Policy Analysis recommendations.
MPO staff will provide regular reports to the Board on the activities of the Safe Streets 4 Broward Oversight Committee.
