DESIRED OUTCOME:
Council to hear presentation by the Flagstaff Arts Council (FAC) Director, discuss, and provide feedback as warranted.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 is Americans for the Arts’ fifth economic impact study of the nation’s nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and their audiences. The local impact has again been studied with major funding from BBB Arts & Sciences Fund revenues, the College of Arts & Letters at Northern Arizona University, and other contributors. The new study, Arts & Economic Prosperity: the Economic Impact of the Non-Profit Arts & Sciences in Flagstaff, Arizona, was published in September 2017 by Americans for the Arts with local data collection by the Flagstaff Arts Council.
The nonprofit arts and culture sector is a significant industry in the City of Flagstaff—one that generates $89.8 million in total economic activity. This spending—$51.7 million by nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and an additional $38.1 million in event-related spending by their audiences—supports 3,035 full-time equivalent jobs, generates $67.7 million in household income to local residents, and delivers $9.1 million in local and state government revenue. The presentation will provide an overview of the study and some highlights of key findings.
