TITLE:

Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) Destination Recovery Presentation

DESIRED OUTCOME:

Introduce the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) Director, Debbie Johnson, to the new council members as well as share, with the entire council, their work to assist our state with rebounding our tourism industry.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) strives to enhance the state economy and the quality of life for all Arizonans by expanding travel activity and increasing related revenues through tourism promotion and development. AOT’s goal is to provide effective, research-driven strategies to achieve this mission while serving as the comprehensive leader in Arizona’s tourism industry.

Mission:
To strengthen and grow Arizona’s economy through travel and tourism promotion.

Vision:
To make Arizona the leading tourism destination of choice for travelers.

AOT will present to the City Council the work they've been doing since the pandemic hit our state and how they are working to help the tourism industry rebound in Arizona.

Recovery Plan Areas of Focus:
1. Accelerate Leisure Travel Activity
2. Stabilize Visitor Volume in Urban Centers
3. Reinvigorate and Strengthen Tourism in Rural Areas

City of Flagstaff staff will also do a short presentation explaining our ongoing collaboration with the Arizona Office of Tourism and share some of the results we've seen.

Arizona's Tourism Economic Impact:
Arizona’s warm weather and magnificent natural beauty made tourism the number one export industry in Arizona in 2019. 46.8 million people visited Arizona in 2019 who collectively spent $25.6 billion in the state. The money spent by visitors supports jobs and generates tax revenue. The $3.78 billion in 2019 tax revenue equals an annual tax savings of $1,400 for every Arizona household and supported 194,300 industry jobs.
