Findings:
Compliance work required per Section 106 NHPA
Information:
In addition to the Local Landmark Overlay approval at the HPC special meeting; Section 106 NHPA compliance was required for archeological surface indicators. The Heritage Preservation Office prepared an expedited request for bids (RFQ) to conduct a site eligibility proposal for an emergency response. Logan Simpson was awarded the contract and conducted fieldwork on Friday, July 29th 2022, and executed 3 substantial backhoe trench profiles. Placement covered both the former Country Club Buildings as well as the concentration of prehistoric items. No indication of an eligible location was discovered. Fieldwork is complete and reporting is underway. Work was able to be done with considerable cooperation and effort by SHPO, NRCS and Arizona State Museum. The information provided in reporting and compliance will be beneficial in producing the Landmark Overlay interpretive signage required. A historic distribution pipe encased in concrete associated with the 1898 water reservoir has been asked to be salvage for use as the base for the interpretive signage.
