Beautification Grant Application: McMillan Mesa Natural Area Vegetation

Informational Item. Staff will provide an update on a Beautification Grant application that was submitted and would focus on vegetation restoration for McMillan Mesa Natural Area if funded.

The Open Space Section received a request for a letter of support from Ms. Crystal Estrada for a Beautification Grant project proposal, which requests funding to sow native plants in the McMillan Mesa Natural Area, near the intersection of the McMillan Mesa’s Sego Lily Trail and North Izabel Street. Staff met with Ms. Estrada to discuss the project and determined that the project would be a good partnership opportunity to restore vegetation with native plants that would help stabilize and beautify the slope that descends from McMillan Mesa Natural Area onto N. Izabel Street. This project aligns with the goals of the City of Flagstaff’s Beautification and Public Art Program by enhancing an area with appropriate native plants. The Open Space Section provided a letter of support for the project.
