TITLE:
Consideration and Ratification: Letter of Support for Arizona Public Service Company’s (“APS”) SAGUARO Program.
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Retroactively approve the letter of support.
Executive Summary:
Arizona Public Service Company requested that the Mayor and City Council submit a letter of support for state funding to support their SAGUARO program. The SAGUARO program is being proposed to the State of Arizona Governor’s Office of Resiliency under the Grid Resilience Grant Program, Solicitation Number: RFGA-GRID-OOR-091124-00. Through this proposed program, APS will strengthen Arizona’s electric grid operations against wildfires by upgrading wood poles to steel poles in high fire risk areas, implementing fire mesh to protect critical APS infrastructure, and installing smart cameras with 360-degree view sheds that will provide greater insights into active wildfire awareness and potential impact to APS operations, all in an expedited two-year timeframe. The letter was submitted to APS on Nov. 5, 2024 ahead of the grant submission deadline.
