Executive Summary:
Approval of the IGA will allow the City of Flagstaff to receive Local Border Support Grants funds from Coconino County for the purpose of enhancing law enforcement services to deter, apprehend, prosecute and detain individuals charged with drug trafficking, human smuggling, and other border-related crimes within Coconino County.

Background and History:
Coconino County applied for certain grant funds for Local Border Support from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (“DPS”) for the purpose of enhancing law enforcement services to deter, apprehend, prosecute and detain individuals charged with drug trafficking, human smuggling, and other border-related crimes within Coconino County. Coconino County entered into an agreement with the DPS to receive grant funds for local border support purposes.
As a condition of the Agreement between Coconino County and the DPS, Coconino County agreed to distribute $200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand dollars) (“Grant Distribution”) to the City of Flagstaff for the purpose of local law enforcement officers working in the METRO multi-agency task force. This money will be used for both Personnel and Operations expenses. These positions work with local, state, and federal partners to regularly conduct drug interdiction activities to deter and apprehend individuals who are involved with drug trafficking, human smuggling, and other border-related crimes.
