TITLE:

Recognition of Municipal Energy Efficiency Efforts

STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Information and recognition.

Executive Summary:

Arizona Public Service (APS) will present the City of Flagstaff with a rebate check in the amount of $64,189.25, along with a certificate, in recognition of energy-efficient lighting upgrades completed across 44 City facilities.

These lighting retrofits were undertaken as part of the larger City-wide Energy and Water Conservation Project, completed between August 2023 and February 2025, which retrofitted 6,206 interior lights and 645 exterior lights to LEDs, improved weatherization in 30 city buildings, installed 14 electric vehicle charging stations, deployed smart irrigation controls at 17 parks, and tested 179 water meters. This project will deliver more than $225,000 in utility savings annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from municipal operations by approximately 730 tons per year.

APS's Solutions for Business Program offers rebates for eligible energy efficiency upgrades, including LED lighting, air-source heat pumps, energy management systems, and more. City staff met with APS to determine which projects under the City-wide Energy and Water Conservation Project were eligible for rebates and submitted 44 applications, resulting in a total rebate amount of $64,189.25.
