The federal Office of Management and Budget has requested public comment on a proposal to increase the urban area population needed to qualify as an MSA from 50,000 to 100,000. If implemented, this recommendation could have significant negative impacts on Flagstaff’s eligibility to receive federal funding. A letter of opposition has been attached to the agenda packet for Council’s approval. Additionally, staff will submit an official comment to the posting in the Federal Register that highlights the same points made in the letter.
