This is an informational update regarding a citizen petition to name the Picture Canyon Preserve bridge the "Jack Welch Memorial Bridge." 

This item is a general update to the commission. If the Open Space Commission wants to see this item move forward, the citizen group will return to provide additional details. At that time, staff will ask the Commission for their formal decision and recommendation to the City Council on this item.
 
Mr. Jack Welch passed away on July 21, 2023. There's community interest in memorializing his many contributions to Flagstaff. He was instrumental in garnering support for the City's acquisition of Picture Canyon. Mr. Welch also contributed to the community as a volunteer, an advocate and guide to natural and cultural sites of the community, and his time to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, Open Space Commission, Sustainability and Environmental Management, Trafic Commission, Disability Awareness Commission, and Beautification and Public Art Commission.
