Consideration and Ratification of Letter of Support: Coconino County Superintendent School Violence Prevention Program grant application
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Retroactively approve the letter of support
Executive Summary:
City staff received a request to voice the City’s support for a school safety grant application being submitted by the Coconino County Accommodation School District. The District is seeking funding through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) School Violence Prevention Program for FY25. This grant aims to help schools, districts, and local agencies implement safety measures that prioritize student and staff well-being. The proposal outlines a comprehensive school safety system, which includes a mass communication system integrated with direct emergency alerts to law enforcement, exterior and interior electronic door access control, a security camera network, shatterproof window film for added security, police-alerting panic buttons, enhanced exterior lighting and distress noise sensors, visitor management software, two-way radios, and handheld metal detectors.
The attached signed letter was sent to the District to include with their grant application by May 1 in order to meet the application deadline.
