TITLE:
Consideration of Appointments: Building & Fire Code Board of Appeals.
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Make two appointments to terms expiring June 2021.
Make three appointments to terms expiring June 2022.
Make three appointments to terms expiring June 2022.
Executive Summary:
The Building & Fire Code Board of Appeals consists of seven citizens serving five-year terms. The Building and Fire Code Board of Appeals holds hearings as needed on appeals related to the application and interpretation of City building and fire codes. The Board of Appeals has no authority to interpret the administrative provisions of the code, nor is the board empowered to waive requirements of the code. There are currently four vacancies on the Board and the terms of the three current board members have expired, leaving all seven open seats. It is important to fill vacancies on Boards and Commissions quickly so as to allow the Commission to continue meeting on a regular basis.

There is no Council goal that specifically addresses appointments to Boards and Commissions; however, boards and commissions provide input and recommendations based on City Council goals that may pertain to the board or commission work plan.

The City's boards, commissions, and committees were created to foster public participation and input and to encourage Flagstaff citizens to take an active role in city government.

INFORM: The vacancies are posted on the City's website and individual recruitment and mention of the opening by Commission members and City staff has occurred, informing others of this vacancy through word of mouth.
