TITLE:
Climate Action and Adaptation Plan Implementation Update
DESIRED OUTCOME:
This is an informational update on the implementation of Flagstaff’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
To achieve the City Council’s goal of implementing the Flagstaff Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP), City staff have begun working with staff partners and community members to take climate action.
Collaboration across the City: Sustainability staff are developing internal processes that will institutionalize climate action. Highlights of completed, ongoing and future work include:

- Meetings with all division directors
- Providing technical expertise for the building code updates
- Providing support for electric vehicle purchases
- A Climate Action Committee comprised of staff leads from each division
- Decision matrix development
- Staff training
- Community events
- Annual greenhouse gas inventory for community emissions
- Monthly outreach through a newsletter and Coffee & Climate
- Climate Ambassadors training
- Student Climate Action Challenge
- Flagstaff Youth Climate Summit

Goal E&C.3 Strengthen community and natural environment resiliency through climate adaptation efforts.
Goal E&C.4. Integrate the best available science into all policies governing the use and conservation of Flagstaff’s natural resources.
Financial Impact:
CAAP implementation will require a financial investment by the City of Flagstaff. Opportunities for investment have been included in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget requests.
