Commission Outreach and Education Program Discussion

Discussion only.

Chair Westheimer requested a discussion of possible future Commission-led public outreach and education programs per the Commission's Powers and Duties listed in the Enacting Authority. Discussions were held during the April 15, June 17, and August 19, 2026 meetings. In earlier discussions, it was suggested that each Commissioner:

• Reflect on this item and bring their top three ideas for outreach and education as well as their personal time commitment to discuss further at the next meeting.
• Consider whether to form a standing ad hoc or subcommittee for outreach and education. 
• Be prepared to discuss the scheduling of an annual retreat in December that could include discussion of outreach and education at the next meeting. 

The following related Powers and Duties are included under 2-19-001-0005 of the Commission's Enacting Authority:

B. The Commission shall increase public awareness of the value of historic, cultural, and architectural preservation by developing and participating in public education programs.

C. The Commission shall advise and assist owners of landmarks or historic structures on physical and financial aspects of preservation, renovation, rehabilitation, and reuse.
