TITLE:
Observatory Mesa Natural Preserve Name Change Implementation Plan
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Informational update. Staff will provide an overview of the implementation plan to officially change the name of the Observatory Mesa Natural Area to Observatory Mesa Natural Preserve, including required updates across City documents, signage, communications, and future planning efforts.
Executive Summary:
The Open Spaces Commission previously recommended a formal name change for the Observatory Mesa Natural Area to better reflect its conservation significance and to establish consistency within internal documents, and public-facing materials. Staff have developed an implementation plan outlining the steps needed to complete this transition, including updating City websites, management plan references, Open Space pamphlets, future PROSE planning documents, and developing new on-site signage. The plan aligns with future CIP funding cycles (2028–2035) to support phased signage replacement and trail plan implementation.
