TITLE
4th of July Drone Show Updates
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION:
The Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Events (PROSE) Division, along with the Economic Vitality Division, will share information regarding the upcoming 4th of July Drone Show event with the Council and public.
Executive Summary:
For the second year in a row, the City of Flagstaff PROSE and EV divisions are collaborating to plan and execute an Independence Day drone show.
Through the fiscal year (FY) 2025-26 budget process, leadership identified transfer funds from Tourism to PROSE for a 4th of July drone show. PROSE performed a formal procurement process through a Request for Proposals (RFP) with the result being an award to Open Sky Productions, LLC. PROSE brought forward the contract, which was approved by Council on January 20, 2026.
The identified event location is Foxglenn Park with the drones launching from the baseball field and event activation occurring on the multipurpose fields. The viewing area for the drone show will be the multipurpose fields with no additional viewing locations advertised. Leading up to the drone launch, PROSE is planning family friendly activiation, including live music, food trucks, games, and inflatable activities.
Discover Flagstaff will be promoting the drone show along with other community events, such as the 2026 Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce Independence Day Parade and their Downtown Mile Run, A Flag Fourth - Flagstaff Symphony free concert, and Flagstaff Art in the Park.
