Land  Acknowledgment

The Flagstaff City Council humbly acknowledges the ancestral homelands of this area's Indigenous nations and original stewards. These lands, still inhabited by Native descendants, border mountains sacred to Indigenous peoples. We honor them, their legacies, their traditions, and their continued contributions. We celebrate their past, present, and future generations who will forever know this place as home.

Public Comment

At this time, any member of the public may address the Commission on any subject within their jurisdiction that is not scheduled before the Commission on that day. Due to Open Meeting Laws, the Commission cannot discuss or act on items presented during this portion of the agenda. To address the Commission on an item that is on the agenda, please wait for the Chair to call for Public Comment at the time the item is heard. (Maximum three minutes per individual)

DISCUSSION ITEMS
 
A.
Presentations on Ways to Promote and Elevate Indigenous Businesses in Northern Arizona

Flag Local:Information on Flag Local and other business initiatives that may support Indigenous businesses will be presented by the Economic Vitality team. Staff members David McIntire, Sabrina Beard, and Lori Pappas will be providing the remaining PowerPoint information from the last meeting.

Local First Arizona: Rafael Tapia is the Director of Tribal Community Connections. He works with Arizona Indigenous nations, government agencies, non-profits, and key stakeholders to build strategic relationships that increase access to resources and opportunities.  How does Local First Arizona activate its mission to strengthen local businesses and communities by establishing equitable systems that level the playing field for a thriving, inclusive and lasting Arizona economy in rural communities and tribal communities? 

Local First Arizona: Aaron Suzuki is the Northern Arizona Business Resource Manager. Aaron works with Flagstaff businesses, residents, and entrepreneurs to hear their challenges and connect them to resources for solutions. Mr. Suzuki will provide information together with Mr. Tapia. 

Any materials to be utilized during the meeting will be forwarded to the Indigenous Commission upon completion of the meeting.

Updates On Event Planning

Updates to be provided on the following:
  • COF Community Social Powwow scheduled for April 19, 2026.
  • Working Groups on planning/meeting schedules for the Honoring All Code Talkers Celebration and Indigenous Peoples Day Event.
