Land Acknowledgment
The Flagstaff Parks and Recreation Commission humbly acknowledges the ancestral homelands of this area’s Indigenous nations and original stewards. These lands, still inhabited by Native descendants, border mountains sacred to Indigenous peoples. We honor them, their legacies, their traditions, and their continued contributions. We celebrate their past, present, and future generations who will forever know this place as home.

Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Martin motioned to approve the December meeting minutes, Commissioner Kerr seconded; minutes approved unanimously.

Chair/Vice Chair Vote
The position of chair was nominated by Commissioner Martin for Commissioner Parsons and was seconded by Commissioner Stackhouse; Commissioner Parsons was approved unanimously for Chair.
The position of Vice Chair was nominated by Commissioner Martin for Commissioner Kerr and was seconded by Commissioner Stackhouse; Commissioner Kerr was approved unanimously for Vice Chair.

Aquaplex Supervisor Update
Ryan Reynolds provided an overview of the Flagstaff Aquaplex programs and amenities. The Aquaplex offers aquatics, a full gym with indoor track, a kids’ club, a gymnasium with basketball, pickleball, and volleyball programming, as well as a variety of fitness classes. The Aquaplex is a cost-recovery facility, which means that it must meet 70% of fiscal expenditures. The facility has been doing their annual membership drive and has sold 636 memberships in the month of January. They sold 182 memberships in December.

Open Space Joint Meeting Agenda
The Commission was asked to name potential agenda items for next month’s joint Commission meeting with Open Space. Items suggested were:
- Synergy
- Greater Observatory Mesa Trail Plan
- Commuter trail
- Accessibility of trails
- 5-year plan
- Commission overlap and collaborative opportunities
- FUTS signage
- Frequency of future joint meetings

There was no report.

Reports – Monthly highlights of Parks and Recreation, Open Space, and Events
Parks welcomed its new and first park ranger, Mathew Bowen.
There was some confusion and feedback shared by the Commission regarding the trail counts section of the PROSE Newsletter.
