SUBJECT:
Approval to submit and accept a grant application with the Florida Department of State for the Highwaymen Museum to renovate the Jackie Caynon Building, located at 1234 Avenue D, in the amount of up to $500,000, not requiring matching funds.
SUMMARY:
Grant applications are being accepted by the Florida Department of State for the African-American Cultural and Historical Grant. The deadline for submission is November 30, 2021. The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency is applying for a $500,000 grant to renovate the Jackie Caynon Building, located at 1234 Avenue D, to house the first-ever Florida Highwaymen Museum. There is no requirement for matching funds for the amount of funds being requested. Grant funds will be utilized to retrofit the existing building to create a top-notch facility to house and display valuable Highwaymen works of art and artifacts. This project is part of the vision to revitalize the Avenue D corridor that received the FPRA Board's approval to implement during its October 27, 2020 meeting.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve request to submit grant application.
