Approval of expenditure in the amount of $79,539.00 for the emergency replacement of a structurally damaged traffic mast arm currently situated at the intersection on the west side of SR A1A and Binney Drive and the work will be performed by AUM Construction, Inc.

The City of Fort Pierce and FDOT currently participate in a joint Traffic Signal Maintenance and Compensation Agreement, which stipulates that maintenance of specific traffic signal components situated within the limits of the State of Florida shall be operated and maintained by the City of Fort Pierce.  This agreement further stipulates that, in addition to the agreed-upon standard annual maintenance compensation, any knock-downs not reimbursed via insurance claims shall be reimbursed by FDOT.  This particular incident is one of those claims, as there was an unidentified hit-and-run incident involving the existing SR A1A and Binney Drive mast arm, which caused substantial structural damage and subsequently defined it as a public safety hazard.  The City's current traffic signal maintenance contractor, Econolite, declined the work due to the lack of FDOT approved shop drawings (refer to the attached email correspondence for detailed information).  Ultimately, FDOT staff provided coordination between their contractor, AUM Construction, and City staff, and an estimate of $79,539.00 was provided for the emergency mast arm replacement.   Full reimbursement by FDOT will be provided upon completion of the mast arm replacement.

Staff recommends approval.
